The Department of Geomatics Engineering at the University of Isfahan officially commenced its academic activities in 1988 by admitting 36 undergraduate students within the Faculty of Engineering. Since its establishment, the department has played a significant role in educating specialists in the field of geomatics engineering and has contributed to the development of scientific and technical expertise in this area.
The undergraduate program in Geomatics Engineering aims to train experts with strong scientific knowledge and technical skills in acquiring, processing, analyzing, and presenting accurate information about the Earth and its features, mainly through advanced mapping technologies.
The department provides opportunities for advanced education through various graduate programs in geoscience-related fields. Currently, specialized education and research activities are conducted in key areas including Remote Sensing, Geodesy, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Photogrammetry at the Master's and Ph.D. levels.
The department is equipped with five specialized educational and research laboratories, including the Digital Cartography and GIS Laboratory, Photogrammetry Laboratory, Remote Sensing Laboratory, Instrumentation Laboratory, and Spatial Data Processing and Simulation Laboratory.
Faculty members of the department have completed numerous research projects in various fields of geomatics engineering and have introduced advanced scientific methods and technologies to national industries.
The department maintains extensive research, professional, and educational collaborations with governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as scientific institutions abroad.
Due to its long academic history and continuous achievements in education and research, many graduates of the department are currently working in industrial, research, and academic organizations across the country.
